A passport is the practical result of the whole process, so I look at it with data, not slogans. My source is the BRIDGES Passport Index for Argentina as of 4 October 2026, plus EU law for Schengen.

The numbers

The Argentine passport ranks 18th of 199. It opens 168 of 226 destinations without a visa arranged in advance:

  • 128 visa-free;
  • 10 with an electronic travel authorisation;
  • 30 with a visa on arrival.

For 58 destinations a visa is needed in advance: 32 electronic and 26 consular.

Europe and the UK

Argentina is listed in Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, so its citizens can stay in the Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The United Kingdom asks for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA); BRIDGES gives a stay of up to six months.

Asia and the Middle East

In the BRIDGES index: Japan visa-free for 90 days, China visa-free for 30 days, Singapore 30 days, Hong Kong, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Türkiye 90 days. South Korea and Israel require an ETA. Indonesia and Egypt give a visa on arrival.

The Americas and MERCOSUR

Brazil and Mexico are visa-free, Mexico for up to 180 days. Within MERCOSUR, BRIDGES notes entry with an identity card and access to residence under the MERCOSUR Residence Agreement in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.

Where a visa is still needed

The United States, Canada and Saudi Arabia require a visa. Australia, India, Vietnam and Cuba issue an electronic visa. According to BRIDGES, Argentina began the process of rejoining the US Visa Waiver Program in July 2025, with no completion date.

The document itself

According to Wikipedia, the passport is valid for ten years for adults and five years for minors. Since 1 February 2026 a new design with a polycarbonate data page and 34 pages has been issued.

My view

For a family that needs Europe and Latin America without visas, this is a strong document. For the United States or Canada it changes nothing yet. Entry rules are set by each receiving country and can change at any time, so I check the current list on the date of travel.
